21st century industries have relentlessly searched for effective ways to develop faster and efficient processes for providing solutions to the ever-increasing challenges of the world today thereby paving ways for technological disruptions across every thinkable sector of human endeavor within societies across the globe.
The African continent is likewise being shaken as digital transformation of the Architecture, Engineering, Construction and operations industry is being witnessed through processes such as Building Information Modelling (BIM) and other futuristic tools and technologies.
Considering this, a team of daring professionals put concerted efforts in place to successfully facilitate the first ever Digital Construction and Building Information Modelling (BIM) Workshop in Lagos Nigeria. The event spanned five (5) days from Monday 24th to Friday 28th of June 2019. It was a hands-on workshop with core focus on digital transformation of the AEC industry in Nigeria as participants explored the BIM process, digital and BIM compliant tools/software, and collaboration resources and environments such as Common Data Environments (CDEs), Construction Operations Building Information Exchange (COBie), BIM Execution Plans (BEP), Level of Detail and development (LOD) and much more. Further explored were emerging technologies in use for construction monitoring and operations such as Virtual & Augmented Reality (VR & AR) and Unmanned Air Vehicles. A key part of the workshop was the BIM Clinic which was a live session that provided insight and technical guidance on BIM deployment and utilization on existing projects of the participants.
Facilitators for the event were drawn from the Academia and practicing AEC industry professionals across different African countries, including Engr. Kehinde Adeyemi of KadeyPRIME Group. The second edition of the event is projected for November 2019, this time to be hosted in Abuja city, capital of Nigeria.
